Series 6, Episode 4, It’s the episode where they get their mums to try the Renault Modus, Honda Jazz (Fit in North America) and the Peugeot 1007.

Kinja'd!!!

It got me thinking. I see the Honda Jazz all the time, I used to see the Renault Modus all the time (no longer made) and rarely but still see them occasionally.

The Peugeot however I rarely saw new and haven’t seen one for a long while now.

TopGear slated the 1007 as too heavy, too slow and the sliding door will get boring quickly as it’s too slow (also that it doesn’t open enough for easy access to the rear seats).

But I sort of like it as a two occupant vehicle for city use.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Yes there is good legroom in the back, if you don’t mind losing some in the front.

Kinja'd!!!

Like the Mk2 Renault Twingo, the rear seats can slide forward and back, at the cost of boot space.

Kinja'd!!!

But getting past all that, drop the rear seats and use it all for luggage. I like the sliding doors but would use them manually rather than electrically (as it’s slow, granted not too slow ).

Here’s one that will get the Americans (other than Miss Mercedes that is, as she knows the power of a small car).

A Peugeot 1007 with a tow bar.

That sliding door really appeals to me for parking access and also for wheelchair loading.

With the ludicrously wide car I drive every day, I’ve had time to think a great deal about the convenience of sliding doors in the front position. Odd that with few exceptions (Pug 1007, Kaiser Darrin) it’s been such a neglected idea.

I suppose it's a weight and electronic issue, the doors and running rails will be heavier and mounted higher. It's also a lot more to go wrong than a couple of hinges and a latch.

a slight level of mitigation to morons parking cars (and I guess more often bikes) in the striped off area next to handicapped spaces.

Yes, and also, sometimes if parking spaces are wide enough and the car is small enough, I can maybe use regular spots and not have to hunt for special ones.

Wind  seals in particular don’t seem to last as long on sliders

I keep looking back at actors, actresses, etc... I grew up with, some even more recent on TV and a third  of them come back as no longer with us.

Growing older sucks.

I’m sad about Clarkson's mum but I'm shocked Clarkson himself is still around considering his lifestyle and how rapidly he seems to have aged on screen.

They all seem to of aged a lot recently.

Jezza has put on a podge but that has been coming on since the end of the BBC TopGear days.

Toyota are still trying this idea in the Japanese market.

Kinja'd!!!

I believe it’s fairly successful there.

T hey started making it 2004, and haven’t stopped yet. Here’s an older one…
